Tia Sleath
Business Development Manager, R2M
Tell us about your career path, and what led you to your current role?
My career started many years ago working in supply chain for an OEM company, this company entered into the water industry importing DI fittings and then merging with another to incorporate pipe and a factory where we could fabricate, here is where i learnt that water doesn't just come out of a tap and is what i have lived and breathed for the past 17 years, having been in sales for majority of this time.
I enjoy learning what the industry has to offer and have made some truly lifelong friends, this is the reason i am in my current role, the diversity, strength, resilience and flexibility everyone has here at R2M, is second to none. I am excited to see what 2023 brings!
What do you see as the most challenging aspect of working in the water industry?
In the UK we have an AMP period, AMPs are valid for 5 years and are regulated with OFWAT.
We are halfway through AMP7 (2020-2025), however due to Covid19 and other external factors we have not seen the usual curves of the AMP period. Many projects have been shelved due to increased prices, lead times and contract awards are changing or coming through early, there is a lot of changes being seen in the UK Water industry.
What keeps you motivated in your career?
Being able to just turn a tap on and be able to drink clean water, plus the friends I have met along the way.
What was the best experience you had at Hawle?
I have only been working here since September, but the best so far would be the factory tours in Austria, having toured a quite a few of our UK factories for various manufacturers within the water industry, it had to be the most impressive, i felt like a child in a sweet shop.
Who is your biggest role model and why?
I don't have any role models as such, however i am inspired by people, stories, walks of life and what can be achieved.
If you had advice for your 18-year-old self, what would it be?
If i could give myself any advice it would be to let go of the past, move on and enjoy what life has to bring, you’re doing great :-).
How do you personally define success?
Success to me means happiness and staying true to yourself, when you enjoy and experience life and love what you have.
