The Market Town of Kundl
Many years ago, the market town of Kundl took an innovative step in the field of water: it opted for digitalization. Today, Kundl is the first municipality in Austria to boast full-scale digitalization of its water supply - and with a 95-km-long water pipeline to boot.
Continuous monitoring is made possible, among other things, by the correlating Hawle.live LOG noise loggers. The project was implemented by Hawle Service GmbH together with the municipality of Kundl. Within a few days, 140 NB IoT loggers were installed in the whole potable water supply network. The entire pipeline network is thus inspected daily for possible leaks. Even the smallest leaks are detected and visualized precisely in the web application. Another major advantage is the ability to react to network losses at an early stage, thus minimizing follow-up costs. We could not wait to visit this market
town and met water-supply-technology specialist, Anton Margreiter. He told us what advantages the digital products offer from his perspective:
"The first thing I do when I get to the office in the morning is to turn on the PC and look at what‘s going on in our water supply. I can spot leaks, for example, at first glance. Thanks to the loggers in the water pipeline, we know the GPS data so we can repair leaks quickly and without delay. This not only saves us time and money, but also energy. We can also obtain information at any time about repairs that have already been carried out. This documentation is fantastic." -Anton Margreiter
As digitalization is not evident at first glance, it is all the more impressive that the market town of Kundl recognized the added value of digitalization so early on. Sustainability is therefore more than just a word for the market town, and digitalization creates a win-win situation for everyone involved: costs and energy are saved and the market town‘s population of over 4,800 is optimally supplied with water. Anton Margreiter also has further plans for the new H4.live hydrants: they are
to be retrofitted with Hawle.live LOG NBIoT loggers. The advantage: as soon as deviations indicating leaks are noticed in the pipeline, the person responsible for the water is alerted. This means even more safety and efficiency for the water supply.
