What is a pipe repair clamp?
Water supply networks may suffer from leakages due to corrosion or cracking over time. Repair clamps are an excellent solution for responding to leaks and restoring the network's integrity.
Essentially, pipe repair clamps are components that cover defects on the pipe with their bodies and, using mechanical seals, return the parameter to the original value. They lock onto the line and eliminate any leaks within the defect segment. Repair clamps can either provide a temporary or permanent solution. They have a long service life similar to other piping components in the system.
Ductile iron pipe repair clamps
The ductile iron repair clamp comes in two halves, with carbon steel galvanized or stainless steel bolts and nuts joining them. The main advantage of this clamp is the ductile iron housing which provides additional strength to the weakened pipe. It also has an outer high-quality epoxy coating that gives long-term protection against corrosion. The EPDM rubber gasket ensures leak-tight sealing with incorporated bridging plates. This clamp can provide a permanent repair to leakages in steel, ductile, and cast-iron pipes. Finally, installation is easy, requiring only a torque wrench to ensure the bolts' torque is correct.
As an alternative to a ductile iron repair clamp to fix the leaks in a PE- or PVC pipeline, you can use the Hawle split collar. This clamp features revolutionary System 2000 brass grip rings on both sides, which ensures a safe and permanent fixation on the pipeline. This is why apart from its main function of providing a restraint pipe connection, this collar allows you to carry out repair works on plastic pipes.
Stainless steel repair clamps
The 0501 stainless steel pipe repair clamp is the smallest, covering diameters between 21mm and 64mm. It comes with a stainless-steel band, an elastomer gasket, and a single galvanized iron lug bridge. You can install it on steel, ductile, and AC pipes using the bolts/nuts and stainless-steel washers. The 0750 is a full circle repair clamp but a single lug variant. Unlike the 0510 version, this clamp comes with already welded bolts. It can optimally cover pipes with diameters of 54 mm – 430 mm. The 0751 is a double lug clamp with similar construction to the 0750. It can cover 84mm to 471mm pipes. The 0750 and 0751 stainless steel pipe repair clamps can repair leaks in steel, ductile iron, asbestos cement, and PVC pipes. Nevertheless, a specialized nut dispenser feeds the nuts directly on the bolts during the installation of both clamps. The main advantage of stainless steel clamps is that they are stronger and more durable than, for example, galvanized repair clamps.
Larger diameter pipe repair clamps – encapsulation collars
Multi-range encapsulation collars of our brand Nova Siria feature carbon steel bodies and have a RILSAN NYLON 11 anti-corrosion coating. These collars have EPDM or NBR sealing gaskets and are compatible with steel, asbestos concrete, HDPE, concrete, PVC, ductile, and cast-iron GRP pipes. They can repair pipes with a bigger outside diameter than the average pipeline. One of their main advantages is that repair works can be done under pressure, requiring no supply interruptions. Therefore, you can apply them as water main repair clamps on breaks under pressure. Other advantages include no pipe cutting, no mains emptying, and a relatively low installation cost. Nova Siria can manufacture products according to the customer's individual needs.
